About
“Between the bass” is a unique bass duet conceived in New York by two of the most innovative, creative and talented musicians that could converge in this crazy, chaotic, frenetic, and inspired city.
With the double bass and the electric bass as their main tool of expression, they generate a powerful, delicate and distinctive sound that attracts the attention of audiences of all ages and diverse origins hungry for music that present new ways to embrace the tradition, launching it into the future.
“Our mission is to take an enigmatic beast like the double bass beyond the limits of imagination, and to use all of its expressive qualities to create a sound that breaks the boundaries of time and genre, without the need for words”
Dana Saba David (Israel) and Carlos Pino (Colombia) created this project after a long individual search for an artistic vehicle that would allow them to share all the experiences they have been collecting over a lifetime of deeply interacting with a wide variety of musical genres.
Dana and Carlos met at the Mannes School of Music while pursuing their master’s degree in classical double bass under a full ride scholarship denominated the “Homer Mensch award of excellence”. They shared the first stand for several seasons with the Mannes Orchestra bringing their intuition and distinctive approach to all sorts of repertoire that the orchestra played, while providing a solid foundation for many successful concerts that the Orchestra played in some of the most respected halls in New York City including Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center and The DiMenna Center for Classical Music.

Dana Saba David
Tel Aviv's rising star, Dana, began her musical journey on the piano. However, the captivating world of jazz soon stole her heart. Mentored by jazz legend Barry Harris, she later transitioned to the classical double bass, honing her skills under the esteemed tutelage of Eli Magen (Israel Philharmonic) and Harold Robinson (Philadelphia Orchestra). Now a sought-after performer leading prestigious ensembles, Dana brings her enchanting melodies and flawless technique to "Between the Bass." Prepare to be captivated as she redefines the possibilities of the instrument.
Carlos Pino
A true musical chameleon, Colombian bassist Carlos thrives on any stage. His career, spanning over 25 years, has seen him electrify crowds at the legendary Rock al Parque festival with his pioneering rock-ska band, La Severa Matacera. Yet, Carlos's versatility extends far beyond Colombian rock. He's graced the prestigious Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, collaborating with jazz giants like Dave Holland and Cecil McBee, as well as classical maestro Don Palma. Deeply influenced by Colombian traditional music legends Sixto Silgado "Paito" and Jose Antonio Torres "Gualajo," Carlos brings a wealth of experience and genre-bending mastery to "Between the Bass."
